Occasions For Serving Gourmet Appetizers

Gourmet appetizers are fun to nibble on. When you walk into a room full of people in anticipation of a dinner or a real estate open house, a tray full of gourmet appetizers accomplishes two things. One, they relax the mood and lessen the anxiety in a social situation when you're in a room filled with people you may not know well or not know them at all.

Two, they break the ice and make conversing with others easier. Naturally, a beverage of some sort accompanies the gourmet appetizer in your hand, commonly a glass of wine or a beer (depending on the appetizer) itself. With these two things in mind, the atmosphere overall is relaxed and as a result, the host or hostess is less anxious when guests appear relaxed and having a good time.

An important difference should be pointed out when serving appetizers. There's an important distinction between serving appetizers right out of a bag such as chips with a canned bean dip and a appetizer that takes time to prepare and involves some creativity. It's one thing to have close buddies drop over to watch a game and attack a bag of chips and drink a beer yet quite another when you're serving a gourmet appetizers in a staid ambiance. So what are some occasions in which gourmet appetizers are called for?

One important occasion when you would want to serve appetizers would be at a wedding reception. A wedding reception is an occasion where many friends and relatives who haven't seen each other in a very long time meet. There are also bound to be strangers at the reception. Although weddings are for celebrating the union of two people, the atmosphere initially may seem cold.

When appetizers are put out with beverages, introductions between people are facilitated and the ice begins to break. An ideal appetizer to serve is prosciutto wrapped around a fresh piece of cantaloupe. That and a glass of wine can practically guarantee a nice celebration ahead. It's no secret that high quality food at a wedding, starting with gourmet appetizers served, is important in making the reception a success.

Another important occasion to serve gourmet appetizers is at a real estate open house. Appetizers here are not always expected. While the purpose of an open house is to come in, observe, and then leave, food doesn't seem to be a priority. However, providing gourmet appetizers and beverages do cause potential customers to linger. It allows time for a potential client to feel more relaxed and possibly build a business relationship with the agent showing the house.
